So I mentioned in the blog post I just wrote that will be online tomorrow (messing with yo mind!!!) that mi familia and I went to Yoga One whilst we were in Charlotte, and I wanted to tell y’all about the experience.
Daddy-o works in Charlotte at the moment and it’s his favorite spot to go to yoga, so we decided as it was rainy and disgusting out we would go down and take their hour-long class with Wendi Williams.
First of all, let me tell you that it was hands-down one of the most beautiful studios I’ve ever been to. It’s got a bright, airy little check-in/ retail/ hangout spot in front with a few changing rooms and cubbies to put your stuff into. Then you walk down this amazing hallway with high ceilings all strung with fairy lights and huge star shaped lanterns and mirrors and a wall that you can write inspirational notes on. The main room is huge – I’m guessing they could fit about 125 mats – half exposed brick, half bright orange, nice hardwood floors. Absolutely stunning place.
The class itself was great- very basic, traditional, Baron Baptiste style vinyasa flow. The teacher was adorable, with a super strong Southern accent that was almost too thick to understand (down’rd facing dawg! Up’rd facing dawg! Fr’d fold!). She was a little fast paced for the first 15 minutes or so of class, but then she seemed to mellow out a lot. She had three lovely assistants who gave me some awesome hands-on assists that I’m totally stealing.
It was funny that we went, actually, because it turns out that Mamma Mia knew one of the studio managers, Daniel Mccall, really well from a training she went to, and I know two of their other teachers – Susie Johnson and Fauna Moore – from a training as well. Apparently the yoga community is a small, small world.
Final thoughts? If you are ever in Charlotte, absolutely check out Yoga One. It’s a beautiful place full of beautiful people.
